The 2012 – and 19th annual – Autoweek Automotive Design Forum on Thursday 12 January was held at the College for Creative Studies' A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education in Detroit. The event takes place each year during the North American International Auto Show, when designers from around the automotive world converge on the Midwestern city to showcase their work, benchmark the offerings of competitors, and reacquaint themselves with former classmates and coworkers in the industry.

Cadillac STS: the lowdown
A new in-yer-face grille will let neighbours know who’s driving a 2008 Cadillac STS. GM’s luxury barge is bigger than ever, and a restyle gives it a confident American look, sharing elements with the flagship Escalade SUV. The multi-faceted grille was first seen on the Sixteen concept, and incorporated onto both Escalade and the 2008 CTS.

We don’t think Mazda are intending building the MX-5 Superlight, it’s more a way of showcasing what can be achieved by radical weight saving. But don’t quote us on that. If Mazda gets big positive feedback they’ll probably turn it in to a production model despite their assertions it’s just a concept.
